General English

General English is a 4-day/week bridge course that presents a review of the basic concepts of grammar, literature, and writing in preparation for high school English I. Instruction in grammar covers parts of speech, sentence structure, capitalization, punctuation, phrases, clauses, word usage, and more. Literature begins with figurative language and then progresses through poetry, short stories, and novels by chiefly American and European poets and authors. Writing initially includes practicing grammar skills and then developing those skills in response to literature, ranging from sentences, to paragraphs, to essays, and a research paper.

No textbooks need to be purchased for this course. All content will be provided in the Canvas classroom.
